Well I got that final call today stating that all is clear from my pre-op testing. I have to arrive at lutheran medical center by 11 am on Monday. i am so excited and nervous at the same time. I want to keep talking about it but then I dont want to annoy the people living with me. I finally have to start my full liquid diet starting tomorrow. Is there any good tasting liquid enema's out there. If any one had open RNY can they tell me how long did the incision take to heal and how long till they could go to the gym. Thanks a Bunch for all the words of encouragment that I received from everyone....this site is a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk all you want here.  That's what this site is for.  I found a lot of encouragement and support on this site and it really made the difference in how much calmer I was.  If I hadn't had the support, I probably wouldn't have had the surgery I had.  But, because I was able to see how well others were doing, it helped me go forward with what I needed to do.  It was also helpful to hear the "not so good" stories too because it gave me an idea of what could happen.

I don't know how long an open RNY takes.  I had Lap RNY.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.  Let us know how you are doing.

Take Care,

Tammy :-)

Welcome to our corner of the world. I had open RNY in June.. and it was all by choice. I felt more in control of the situation. I handle pain fairly well and I had an epidural and when that was removed they gave my percoset. I was able to go back to my job as a CNA on a cardiac unit within 6 weeks. They wanted to make sure I was fully healed. I felt so ready to go back and stir crazy. Each dr has their guidelines as to how soon based on your body and your job. Just make sure you follow them to a T.
I have gone from a size 20-22 down to a size 6--- losing about 90lbs so far. I truly love my RNY

Hi! I had open on November 18, my incision healed quickly, I guess about a month. My doc is fairly  conservative about post-op exercise and I was cleared for light walking and stretching about 2 weeks after surgery, but for the gym and weights and stuff...6 weeks.
I hope everything goes wonderfully for you, this is gonna be a great year!

You are amazing!
Mary
